just because

so, now that i'm back to the present, why not two posts in one day?! plus, i forgot to post a few things on the previous one...

so, a few updates on downey:
- we are currently in a "boil water" order because they found nasty bacteria in three well water supplies. not only is this totally backwards (are we in a small farm town or third world country?), but it's really strange to drive around and see EVERY restaurant, coffee shop and fast food shop closed. even the grocery stores are shutting down the meat and produce sections. yes, we live in the hood.

- we also read in the local paper that there was a pretty scary in-home robbery and hold-up a few blocks from here...they zip-tied two family members and stole tons of money and jewelry. this scared us a lot. yes, again, we live in the hood.

and, lastly, something a little bit lighter:
- i've been thinking about a new haircut, contemplating bangs. i know this is silly, but i love, love, love women with swoopy, or super-short, or shaggy bangs and always wish that i could have them. so, i've been flickring and checking out some options...which i need some feedback on because my two previous forays into the bang world were not pretty (1st grade china doll, bowl bangs, and 6th grade super-sprayed, vertical 90s bangs; the latter rocked, but are silly now.) i tend to feel that curly hair and bangs don't go, but am contemplating an expensive cut at toni and guy if i really go for it. i'm afraid of the "crying-all-the-way-to-the-car-after-a-haircut" episode, though. what do you think?

here are some inspirations:

maybe this is too short all around...? i love the bangs, but think i might cry...? not sure.

i have no idea which jonas brother this is, but i love his haircut. same color, same general curliness. nice.

the husband saw the previous photo and promptly asserted, "NO WAY! you'll look like the greatest american hero," which i replied with "who??" clearly i am too young for this show, but recognized the theme song for some reason. this is NOT the haircut i want and kind of see the jump he made in hair styles, but this one clearly looks more gheri-curlish to me. and obviously i can't or won't go down that road.

lastly, i wasn't sad to see terri go on this season of project runway, but i was sad that i couldn't inspect her hair for longer. i love this look, but wonder how the whole african american hair vs. white girl hair compares. i've always wondered this when lusting after oprah's hair, asking myself, "is this just a wig???" i know that sounds goofy, but can my hair do this?

and lastly, just because it was so perfect for this post (have i mentioned how much i dislike oprah?)

cra-a-a-zy curliness. only oprah and the middle kid, though. what's with these porcelain-looking, tight-pants wearing bros? i haven't caught this wave yet.

i vote for jonas brother or project runway. but that's because i would never be daring enough to go for the super short bangs in the first pic.

i don't get the jonas bros. either...but they are from northern NJ and their dad is a pastor...so i can't totally hate them.

but they're weird-looking...not what i'd call 'cute' but not total dogs either. they're an interesting breed.

so, i think the pixie bangs will annoy you. they wouldn't just dry like that; you'd have to flat iron them most likely. i like terri's hair, but wonder if it's natural or done with a curling iron.
this is kind of cute...
